Diwali 2006 - Dublin Sparkles

Hey , its diwali time... We did plan to go out and do some outdoor activity.. Weather was predicted to be awful during the weekend. So we were forced to stay indoors.. Each one of us (Me , Bala's family , Nirmala and Vidhya ) agreed to cook diff items and decided to celebrate diwali at Bala's house.

We did have diff items lined up. I did take the challenge of making semiya payasam..(indian pudding made of vermicilli and milk).. i did exactly followed the recipe from bawarchi.com ..it came out fentastic..its not a big deal any more as long as i can find the recipe on the web..

Hats off to Selvi , Nirmala , bala and Vidhya for the fentastic menu sambhar, rasam, vad, gulob jamun , jeavarisi payasam, brocolli curry , carrot , pulav and curd rice.. Its too much food at one go.. somehow managed to get everything in..

Our new friend Satish and his wife joined for a cards game (rummy)... It was good craic..

Fentastic day ... A day to remember...

Pscubed dinner at Dogs Shelbourne - 21 Sep 2006

Joe & Eugene did organize a dinner for all Pscubed employees (Joe, Eugene,Ann,Anand,Jop,Bala,Prakash,Nirmala) at restaurant in Shelbourne racing club. Its a unique atmosphere where we could place bets on dog races while dining . Ideal place for a social event. There are TV screens before each table to track your dogs..

We had good fun. Nobody was concentrating on the food..Even betting novices Nirmala & Selvi (bala's wife) had a field day. I did win close to 25 Euros.

http://www.dublinevents.com/dublin-sports/Greyhound-racing.php

When we were in the restaurant, messages were pouring about a hurricane approaching north dublin..Everybody was saying its quite windy outside and people started worrying about the Ryder cup starting next day(sep 22) in Ireland. We did come out of the club around 10.30 pm and it was very very windy outside. Water level at the Liffey below the bridge near Custom house was alarmingly high..We were thinking we may not be able to go to work on friday..But the next day morning, surprising the weather was normal and Ryder cup started on scheduled time..

Good One !! - Husband Store

The Husband Store!
A store that sells husbands has just opened inNew York City, where a woman may go to choose a husband.
Among the instructions at the entrance
is a description of how the store operates. You may visit the store ONLY ONCE!
There are six floors and the attributes of the men increase as the shopper ascends the flights. There is, however, a catch. ... You may choose any man from a particular floor, or you may choose to go up a floor, but you cannot go back down except to exit the building!

So, a woman goes to the Husband Store to find a husband. .

On the first floor the sign on the door reads:
Floor 1 - These men have jobs and love the Lord.

The second floor sign reads:
Floor 2 - These men have jobs, love the Lord, and love kids.

The third floor sign reads:
Floor 3 - These men have jobs, love the Lord, love kids, and are extremely good looking.
"Wow," she thinks, but feels compelled to keep going.

She goes to the fourth floor and sign reads:
Floor 4 - These men have jobs, love the Lord, love kids, are drop-
dead good looking and help with the housework.
"Oh, mercy me!" she exclaims, "I can hardly stand it!"

Still, she goes to the fifth floor and sign reads:
Floor 5 - These men have jobs, love the Lord, love kids, are drop- dead
gorgeous, help with the housework, and have a strong romantic streak.

She is so tempted to stay, but she goes to the sixth floor and the
sign reads:
Floor 6 - You are visitor 14,363,012 to this floor. There are no men on
this floor. This floor exists solely as proof that women are impossible
to please. Thank you for shopping at the Husband Store.
Watch your step as you exit the building, and have a nice day!
Please pass on this article to all men for a good laugh and to all the women who
can handle the truth!

FIFA WorldCup 2006(Jun/July) - Predictions league

One of the world's biggest sporting event FIFA world cup kicked off in Germany.. We were hooked up to the TV everyday..Quite good to be in europe during this time..everybody talks, breathe football. I was in Germany during the last 2002 worldcup(Japan/Korea).

Germany/Italy/France had a great worldcup..I did want germany to win ..unfortunately they lost in epic battle with Italy in the semifinal (cld be the match of the w'cup).. Italy's defence and zidane's head butt decided the w'cup in favor of Italy..

""Italy's Fabio Cannavaro lifts the trophy after defeating France 5-3 in a shotout in the final of the soccer World Cup between Italy and France in the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, Sunday, July 9, 2006. (AP Photo/Jasper Juinen) ""

I did participate in a exciting football predictions league with my colleagues at my workplace.. we were asked to predict the scores for each game. 3points for the correct score and 1 point for correct result. This kept us motivated for 6 weeks ..made us to look in matches like Iran-Angola game Believe it or not, i did win the league did share the top spot and the prize money.. i went for a 1-0 win for italy in final against france and jan got the scores right(3 points) that left us at the same scores.. cricket crazy indian winning against football crazy europeans is quite an achievement.

Here is the mail from organizing committee of predictions league
"Gentlemen,
Well, the World Cup is over for another four years. And with last night's final, we now have a winner of the title of the WCP Championship ..... well winners actually. Jan had the 1-1 for the final with Anand only having a 1-0 win to Italy . So both finish with a tally of 59pts. Jan does have 1 more correct score (with 10) but after some detailed investigation into the WCP rules archive, it was decided by the board of directors that the prize would be split.

Congrats to both Jan and Anand on fantastic predictions over the course of the World Cup.
Also, Shane should be mentioned with the least amount of 'Completely Wrong' scores with only 22. No prize for this but the respect of your peers.

I'll pass on prizes over the next few days.

And that's it. Thanks to all for entering this thing and making the World Cup just that bit more interesting."

Best Regards
Managing Director of the World Cup Predictathon (WCP)"
